The Other Palace

Fire Door Surveying & Remedial Works

After the successful completion of Fire Door Remedial works in the historic theatre ‘Theatre Royal’ in Windsor in 2022, PFS Network were instructed to complete a Fire Door Survey at ‘The Other Palace’ in London. The survey concluded that several fire doors showed signs of damage, therefore, our team of BMTrada accredited engineers completed Remedial Works and new Fire Door set installations where necessary to ensure compliance was met.

The Other Palace has an extraordinary history dating back to 1766 when it began life as the Charlotte Chapel. It was then converted into a cinema in 1924 and into a theatre in 1931. Unfortunately, the theatre was destroyed by a fire in 2002. Following the loss of the theatre, the Theatres Trust and Save London’s Theatres campaign fought continuously to reinstate a theatre on site. In 2009 Westminster council granted planning permission for a theatre to be built.

In 2012 the current theatre opened as St. James Theatre, featuring a 312-seat main theatre and a 120-seat studio theatre.

St. James Theatre was acquired by Andrew Lloyd Webber’s LW Theatres in 2016. After closing its doors in January 2017 for refurbishment, the theatre finally reopened in Feb 2017 as The Other Palace, the home of musical theatre.

The Other Palace

To ensure all areas of the theatre were remediated efficiently and in a timely manner a full schedule of works was put in place, allowing our client to have visibility on the projects’ estimated completion date. Thanks to our team of engineer’s hard work, all remedial works were completed in 4 weeks and the new Fire Door sets were installed in just one day.

We are pleased to say that all fire doors at The Other Palace are now fully compliant with the current British Standards.
